The Darkest Night 2016 Letter

Hello, fellow Darkest Night writer/artist! Dark fic has a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to read/see your story. Surely, you'll rip out my heartstrings (please be gentle). The psychological aspect of darkfic really takes my interest the most, and I want to see my favorite characters affecting each other's states of mind. Since you have an interest in writing any one of the below fandoms for me, I'll be happy with whatever you create. Honestly, feel free to mix and match the tags I've selected a bit for certain fandoms as long as they fit whatever you choose to write.

For this exchange I have requested X/1999, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Gakkou Gurashi! School Live, Pokemon GO, and Owari no Seraph.

  • Dark Magic
  • Dubious Consent
  • Dark Fairy Tale Elements
  • Emotional Manipulation
  • Revenge Seduction

  • While I love the manga's fluff and underlying good messages, this isn't a happy manga by the end of volume seven and we can blame my (beloved) trashbag Seishirou for the pain and suffering. At the end of the day I draw the most fascination with the aftermath of the Bet or what Seishirou does during the Bet to push things in his favor while Subaru doesn't realize it at first. I'd love to see Seishirou shine as an assassin and manipulator against having himself exposed too early, or Subaru or Hokuto's own personal faults show the different outcomes of the Bet.

If you use Arousal From Killing for Seishirou, I'd like the circumstances of that killing explained a bit just to make it feel more believable. What the person did, etc. It's a trait I don't think necessarily fits him in canon, but I don't mind this explored in a dark fic. Seishirou kills for a living and his mind is a little bit of a mystery, after all. I've put Dark Fairy Tale Elements mostly for the different kinds of spirits Subaru runs into. Feel free to run with different kinds of spirits that aren't human.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Subaru grow a stronger backbone. I actually think he's incredibly strong-willed and not any kind of pushover despite how weak and fragile the fandom sometimes writes him as--he's a professional at what he does. It isn't in his nature to hurt anyone. But Subaru can be too passive, and I want to see him snap and take things into his own hands. Maybe he goes after Seishirou and tries to seduce him while fixated on his betrayed feelings. Maybe Seishirou kills him at the conclusion of the Bet, but Subaru doesn't realize it because he's so focused on Seishirou. I know, that's farfetched, but can you imagine how upsetting that would be for him to realize eventually? Just a thought.

Art prompts: flamboyant 90s fashion, anything with the normal TB monotone/Earth themes, blood everywhere, cherry blossoms, something about the end of the Bet

    X/1999

    Shirou Kamui, Monou Fuuma

  • Tricked into D/S

  • Dream Invasion
  • Fuck Or Die
  • Nightmares
  • Planet Destruction
  • Shame in Sexual Desires
  • Threats
  • Stalking
  • cosmic horror
  • Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence

  • It feels like X will never come off hiatus and I wouldn't mind seeing something with Kamui and Fuuma's messed up relationship to quench the thirst. If you want to know the truth, I don't feel like Fuuma is an incredibly horrible person as "Kamui." I feel like Fuuma is still kind deep down but he can't help it. But this is a dark fic exchange, and I would love to see the sadistic and creepy part of him explored. The reasons Fuuma adopted his role, the way he views Kamui as his twin star.

I suppose Kamui suffering is inevitable here. Maybe you could turn the tables and make Kamui the one who chose the Angels instead of the Seals?

On another note, I wouldn't mind seeing something with the world ending if Fuuma managed to defeat Kamui. Fuuma's identity and his internal suffering would be interesting to read since I've mentioned it. We never see the inner "good" Fuuma inside after he changes to the Kamui. Maybe they meet in their dreams and it causes nightmares. Using the planet theme and impending destruction after the Promised Day would also be a new thing to see.

I didn't put them in a group for some reason while I nominated these two, but I'm assuming anyone reading this request would ship them. Luring Kamui into sex would be interesting—though I don't want it to be completely non-consensual. Maybe a situation where Kamui thinks he has to (fuck or die), or Fuuma tricked him into it(the d/s dynamic). The rough, cruel thing is fine, but I'm really more in for the creep vibe Fuuma has going on.

Art prompts: Earth themes, blood everywhere, the barren Earth or the stars, all the X imagery

    Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Akemi Homura, Kaname Madoka, Sakura Kyouko, Tomoe Mami, group: Kriemhild Gretchen & Homulilly, group: Sakura Kyouko & Tomoe Mami group: Akemi Homura & Kaname Madoka & Tomoe Mami group: Akemi Homura & Kaname Madoka

  • Post-Suicide Mission
  • Enduring Pain to Protect Another
  • Ignoring relationship issues
  • Mission Failure
  • Grief/Mourning
  • Isolation
  • Scars
  • Twisted and Fluffy Feelings
  • Mental Breakdown
  • Descent into Madness
  • Blood and Violence
  • Time Travel Fix-It Gone Wrong

  • Madoka and Homura are messed up because of the the time travel and their desire to help each other. Enduring pain for each other, especially Homura for Madoka, would be great. What else might have happened if a time loop had gone wrong for Homura right from the get-go? Homura always usually makes it to the end of a loop. What does she do if she starts and everything turns sour immediately but she can't rewind just yet? How else might Madoka and Homura be tied together through her time travel?

Mami and Kyouko, meanwhile, had an ugly falling out. What if Mami had gotten to know Kyouko's family better and something else terrible had happened? Mami's focus on justice and sticking to magical girl concepts is ripe for more arguments. I wouldn't mind seeing more about it, times they may have come across each other not in canon after the falling out or what could have happened if the main series hadn't happened. What do they ignore when they're fighting witches, and how does that cause tension?

Perhaps the girls defeat Walpurgisnacht and have detrimental effects afterwards. Paying attention to the pain in the timelines would especially be interesting if Madoka did remember a previous timeline for some reason. That could either be focused on Homura, or you could have Madoka or Homura try to save Mami, or vice versa.

I also asked for Kriemhild and Homulilly because I think that's just such a good idea for a story! I don't know what to ask for specifically. They could be at war. Maybe Madoka and Homura realize they're fighting each other deep down but can't do anything about it. If they destroy the world together after turning into witches like Homura asked for in one of the timelines, I think that would turn into quite the story. Use Homulilly's red spider lillies or her dolls as symbols. You could show Kriemhild's strong grip over wishes in a darker light than Madoka's.

Art prompts: the world not quite right, Homulily's dolls or red spider lillies, time loops in motion, protecting each other, religious imagery

    Gakkou Gurashi! School Live

Takeya Yuki, Ebisuzawa Kurumi, Wakasa Yuuri, Sakura Megumi, Naoki Miki

  • Ethical Dilemmas
  • Depression
  • Twisted and Fluffy Feelings
  • Major Character Injury
  • Zombies
  • Blood and Violence
  • Forced To Commit Violence
  • Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms
  • Mental Breakdown
  • Forced to fight
  • Things no one talks about
  • Loneliness

  • Living in the zombie apocalypse means depression, loneliness, and a sense of yearning for the outside world. The decisions that go into keeping each other alive are crucial, or the reactions to what should happen to keep calm and collected. I'm definitely all about the reactions.

Anything with Kurumi fighting a horde of zombies or getting hurt protecting the others. Some days would be better for her, some worse, so I'd like to see her on a bad day or what choices she has to make in a snap decision.

Yuuki is the first characters that fascinates me the most. She's lost in a hopeful dream world and just can't draw herself out of it unless she's forced to. She obviously can't handle the horror of the situation, but I'd love to see what flip-flops and circles around in her mind when she's stuck in a dark spot. I want to know the coping mechanism she has and how blocks out blocks the chilling despair, what she denies that she doesn't tell the others if she runs into trouble but can't get herself to admit it, how utterly tough something has to become for her to snap out of her comfort zone and protect her friends. Her problems definitely wouldn't be solved, but seeing her struggle and some internal thoughts would be a joy.

Whoever you want to ship here is fine with me, if you go that route. Kurumi/Yuuri and Yuuki/Miki are the basic ships I'm okay with. I've only seen the anime up until this point if you're worried about spoilers.

Art prompts: how Yuuki sees the world, battling zombies

    Pokemon GO

Team Valor Female Trainer, Team Instinct Female Trainer, Team Mystic Female Trainer

  • Revenge Backfire
  • Stalking
  • Unhealthy Relationships
  • Urban Legends
  • Broken Bones
  • Hand Injuries
  • the road to hell is paved with good intentions
  • War Trophy
  • Alternate Universe - Dark Fantasy
  • Mind Games
  • Identity Reveal
  • Blackmail
  • Twisted and Fluffy Feelings
  • Abuse of Authority

  • Most of my thoughts here are gen, but romance fic works too. We don't know much about the canon of the team leaders and their relationships in detail. And if more comes to light while you're writing, feel free to add it! Since Pokemon is mainly child-friendly, my first thought is that everything in a dark fic for Pokemon would have the intention of being good but ends up downspiraling.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure what to expect with this request! I am by not a hardcore player of GO. Mostly, there's not too many good PokeStops near me. But I love the game for what it is or could be in the future, and I would love to see fic based on the team leaders and mechanics of the game explored realistically or not realistically. Even if the leaders have to try to coexist some days without major chaos, I don't think they'd always succeed, things turning sour in such a crazy environment.

If they try to steal each other's gyms, what happens? I imagine "war trophy" as some symbol of a gym, or stealing Pokemon, or taking something that belongs to the other leader. Do they watch each other movements carefully, stalk them or use blackmail to force the gym over? How might they abuse their authority as leaders if they're greedy? I imagine constant revenge and backlash if the leaders themselves or their members keep stealing gyms and cause an uproar when they're snatched away. What conflict would divide them? Is there a system to these things that isn't present in the real world game? I've put hand and injuries and broken bones mainly because I'd imagine that it'd be easiest for those injuries to happen, sort of influenced by real world people getting injured as well.

Maybe the leaders didn't even know each other's identities like we didn't in the real world for a few weeks! Personally, I joined Team Valor, so I'd love to see a fic focused on Candela/Molres/anything to do with that.

Art prompts: fighting at a gym, a face-off outside a gym that's personal

    Owari no Seraph

group: Mikaela Hyakuya & Krul Tepes

  • Vampirism
  • Mind Manipulation
  • Alternate Universe - Dark Fantasy
  • Conditioning
  • Loss of Innocence
  • Loss of Humanity

  • Anything about Krul introducing the vampire world to Mika and forcing him to take part would excellent. Even though Mika was only with Krul for four years, Mika has a truly steadfast heart to retain his humanity for as long as he did. Can you imagine how hard that would be surrounded by vampires that you hated? The vampire world in OnS is quite stagnant, so I wouldn't mind Mika teaching Krul about the human world, and maybe Krul turns that back on him for her own advantage. Perhaps Krul decides to play with Mika's devotion to his family and redirects back to the vampire side, showing him how he shouldn't dwell on them forever. While Yuu's the one that thinks he abandoned Mika, she could point out how that she's now with Mika and she's the only true constant to his life.

I've also put an AU tag for dark fantasy, and I think it could be interesting if they did meet in other ways through magic. Krul a high priestess, sorceress, or royalty. Mika a knight, a healer, or a strategist. Maybe Mika's the chosen one for a prophecy Krul has but it doesn't go as planned? At least, I think that would be true to the Seraph project.

Art prompts: sucking blood, royalty/knight imagery, teaching each other something new, angel/Bible imagery
