GenEx Letter 2016

Hey, fellow GenExer!

We're going to have a blast writing for this exchange, so I'm glad I have you as my trusty assigned writer! You share my fandoms and that automatically means you must be an awesome person. As for me, I'm pretty laidback and easy to write for and love to read all kinds of stories. So, you totally shouldn't have any problems as long as you note my DNWs and such.

For this exchange I have requested: Cardcaptor Sakura, Owari no Seraph, and Tokyo Babylon.

Definitely likes:
  • I'm not usually squicked by injuries/descriptions of gore as long as they're handled well. I enjoy medical terminology as long as it's used correctly.
  • Word salad: time travel, fairytales, enemies to friends, betrayal, romantic imagery, world building, mind games, gray mortality, light or darkfic stories, all the animals, platonic relationships, light canon themes or heavy AU and vise versa, age gaps in friendship/mentor roles, angst, drama, slice of life, hurt/comfort, bittersweet or happy endings, holiday fic, adventure, divergence, case fic, found families, missing scenes, monster of the week scenarios

  • AUs I like: Pokemon, Pokemon GO, Harry Potter, platonic life partners (meaning, I like seeing how characters were meant to find each other and how fate lead them to each other), knights and royalty, childhood friends, assassin AUs, historical (feudal Japan, ancient China, ancient Romans, etc), flower shop, hospitals, art schools, another fandom you notice I really enjoy (too many to list)

    Would not prefer/DNWs:
  • Second-person POV is usually not my cup of tea. 1st person also isn't, but I wouldn't mind seeing first person as long as it really digs into a character's thoughts and motivations. I supposee that means introspection.
  • Sexual content in general for this exchange. Mentions of pregnancy or kidfic. Talking about side pairings or teasing are fine.
  • I don't expect them, but please no zombie, werewolf, or superhero AUs.
  • Word salad: genderswap, drugs (depends, but usually not for recreational use—unless you're trying to nail down whoever the character is has depression beyond repair. cigarettes are fine), character bashing, abuse that doesn't fit the plot/character's personality

  • Cardcaptor Sakura

As for the original canon, I am following the Clear Card arc. Feel free to use plot threads from that if you so wish!

    Daidouji Tomoyo & Kinomoto Sakura

Sakura and Tomoyo are sweet beyond compare, and I'd love to see them together just being good friends! They're both a heartwarming pair that came together simply because their chemistry really adds up. Tomoyo is hyperactive when it comes to Sakura because she loves everything about her, and Sakura needs Tomoyo's good energy to uplift her spirits. Sakura's exceedingly positive but Tomoyo is still her second half.

I feel like an AU may be good for these two to show off more about them in a unique way. The basic coffee shop, rivalry, etc. Or maybe they get into a fight for some reason, or Sakura doesn't like Tomoyo's clothing designs and doesn't know how to tell her she doesn't.

Art prompts: Sakura trying on new designs Tomoyo has. Anything in pretty scenery.

Daidouji Tomoyo & Kinomoto Sakura & Li Syaoran

Our favorite trio! Syaoran, Sakura and Tomoyo take my heart for how they bounce off each other. They truly make a great trio of friends and rivals in Sakura and Syaoran's case, and I'd love to see that in all kinds of ways. The rivalry early on, or the strength of their friendship later into the canon, or even anything years down the line they do as adults.

Anything about the Clow Cards being hard to catch, another day at school or an event, etc. Maybe a good AU would work for this series though I'd love it just as much set in the main canon universe. Sakura or Syaoran could use their magic in any number of ways and Tomoyo supports them. Sakura and Syaoran help Tomoyo out and she never realizes it? Something set back home for Syaoran would be awesome, too! Anything about them teaching each other lessons, helping each other out, and magic.

Art prompts: all three of them just standing together looking determined, pretty scenery, Sakura and Syaoran trying on Tomoyo's outfits

    Kinomoto Sakura & Tsukishiro Yukito

Sakura and Yukito always had a good relationship, but they've had some rocky moments with Sakura's crush on Yukito (mostly hard for her) and Yue (for Yukito). But they've never gotten into fights, and Sakura is of course really sweet, and the two could have all kinds of fluffy moments together. Sakura could learn many things from Yukito.

Funnily enough, I can see Sakura and Yukito bonding over Touya. The two of them rying to figure out a present for Touya for his birthday and accidentally realizing they haven't come up with a present. Yukito needing Sakura's opinion on what he should make Touya to eat in a recipe (because bonding with his boyfriend is best over food, right?). If you don't want to mention Touya, feel free to cover any resolved issues Sakura may have towards putting aside her romantic feelings for Yukito and seeing Yukito as simply her friend, talks about Yue, etc.

Art prompts: Sakura helping Yukito eat a high-stacked ice cream cone (because the image of it is cute)

    Owari no Seraph

Basically, I've seen mostly the anime, but I have read The Story of Vampire Mikaela which is really just important for Crowley and Ferid.

    Crowley Eusford & Ferid Bathory

Though the anime is my main source of the canon, I have dipped my toes into The Story of Vampire Mikaela novels and eagerly await the third volume this fall. I find the weird but magnetic "friendship" between the two of them a joy to read. Crowley didn't want anything to do with Ferid after he realizes how Ferid tricked him with the death of his comrades, but Ferid's sneaky Master Planner approach swayed Crowley to his side after many years of Crowley yearning revenge.

I suppose most anything goes here, really. Maybe show something different for Crowley if things had gone better for him before being turned into a vampire. Something with the Crusades or turning the tables on Ferid in some smart way—because Feird just gets away with too much and Crowley is perfectly smart himself! I liked the tone of the mystery Ferid lead Crowley on (ex. silver needle case) and wouldn't mind anything in that vein. In fact, I wouldn't mind a detective AU. You can also bring things up closer in canon to the main storyline and how they visit each other in the library, what conversations they'd have, etc.

Art prompts: Ferid and Crowley standing back to back (cool image to me), anything to do with knight imagery

    Hyakuya Mikaela & Krul Tepes

Krul and Mika have a strong bond despite that they surely would have a bumpy road reaching that point. Sharing blood is a dependent thing on Mika's part, and surely it was new still to Krul when you consider it. But that's only one piece of what brings them closer since Krul doesn't explain much of anything to Mika. Krul would treasure Mika in the vampire world since she considers him her "pet" more than Mika would ever relish being at the mercy of a vampire.

This is a darker pair. I don't mind putting Mika through terrible mental anguish and angst. Krul would definitely keep Mika to herself in the vampire world and I'm okay with her doing that! Surely vampires would be curious of Mika now that he's on the radar and not livestock anymore. Eventually, too, I wouldn't mind seeing Mika begrudgingly accept Krul and what he puts himself through before he can even even accept her whatsoever.

Art prompts: sharing blood, Krul petting Mika lovingly, Mika doing something nice for Krul after he accepts her

    Hyakuya Mikaela & Hyakuya Yuuichirou

When I think about Mika and Yuu I honestly think "adorable" because they truly, truly are adorable to the max! Where do I begin. While what happened to them is inexhaustibly depressing, I enjoy seeing how after so long and their switch in roles the two of them consider each other close family and never lose sight of that. The two of them would do anything to protect the other, especially from Mika's long-suffering perspective.

I wouldn't mind childhood snippets from Sanguinem. What did they do during short food supply for the family? How do they handle any outside threats from the vampires or other kids in the city. Seeing how they take care of each other when things were really tough or sick would be interesting, too. Or, what challenges might have arisen if Mika and Yuu had been the only ones to escape Ferid?

Art prompts: just sharing a happy moment together, where they'd go if they had a choice to escape

    Tokyo Babylon

Know all canon, lay everything on me.

    Sumeragi Hokuto & Sumeragi Subaru

Between the deep connection they share while taking care of each other, I love how they try to keep each other separate, their images distinctive and polished, at the same in their hearts. They're twins, and while no one in the series treats them differently for it, they both try to navigate their lives and constantly compare themselves to each other in terms of strength and weakness.

Maybe, for once, Subaru goes out of his way and does something nice for Hokuto to repay all her kindness if she's in a pickle. Shirking off his duties for once would really speak volumes to that, you know? Just a day at school, a moment in their childhood, what it was like to train as kids. Or a piece about how similar but different they are and how that brings them closer would be an eye-opener. For them I'd really like something sweet and fluffy, but a dark introspective piece post-canon would be okay. For that, though, I'd like flashbacks at least with some interaction between the two of them.

Art prompts: flamboyant 90s fashion!, anything with the normal TB monotone/Earth themes, just sharing a meal together or doing something fun

Sumeragi Hokuto & Sumeragi Subaru & Lady Sumeragi

I find the Sumeragi triangle endlessly fascinating. Lady Sumeragi taught her grandchildren so much about omyoudo, and while that talent went in different directions after Subaru and Hokuto grew up, I think she's proud of them despite not doting and praising them. I find Lady Sumeragi wonderful from her prickly attitude but inner softness. Even her stickler hang-ups on traditional aspects make me happy. I'm not particularly interested in anything overtly negative or evil about her in the overall scheme of things. I'd love to embrace the Sumeragi family's traditions full-swing.

Anything about training as children would be great. It'd be rough for Subaru and Hokuto, but I wouldn't mind seeing how Lady Sumeragi oversees it. Perhaps Lady Sumeragi explains a story about herself and cases she's been on in the field to encourage Subaru and Hokuto when they need a motivational pick-me-up. How Lady Sumeragi watches over Subaru and Hokuto after they move to Tokyo would also be nice during the main story timeline. Or, another vein, thoughts Hokuto and Subaru have about their grandmother and what they do and don't tell her about their lives in Tokyo (with or without Seishirou there yet).

Art prompts: Lady Sumeragi showing them a spell, Hokuto and Subaru surprising Lady Sumeragi somehow, traditional clothing

    Sakurazuka Seishirou & Sumeragi Hokuto

Banter, one of those lazy days Subaru is on a job and neither of them can come, simply scheming something against Subaru for a bit of fun... or even have Hokuto confront Seishirou and it turns into something that turns sour too early (ex. Hokuto threatening Seishirou with the knife). Throughout the manga it's abundantly obvious that Hokuto and Seisihrou are sometimes more in-sync with each other's antics than Hokuto is to Subaru. I'd love to see that explored.

Overall, I've always felt that Seishirou never quite wanted to kill Hokuto. Or, he did regret it to a degree later even if that means he doesn't understand why exactly. Perhaps he didn't care in the moment but didn't particularly enjoy it, either. We see that later in X at the conclusion of Subaru and Seishirou's final battle. Just what stewed in Seishirou's mind for all those years is still a mystery. I wouldn't mind a fic with Hokuto confronting Seishirou before the death takes place, or what would have happened if he had refused to kill her.

Art prompts: eating ice cream together, standing under sakura, Seishirou dressing up for Hokuto in new clothes
